Vice Chancellor
Loughborough is an exceptional university, ranked 5th in the Guardian University Guide 2021, and top 10 in every national university league table. We are proud to be different. The combination of our sector-leading excellence in student experience, enterprising outlook, world class research and unparalleled sporting success gives rise to something that is truly special and distinctive amongst UK universities. The University’s new Vice-Chancellor will inherit a high-performing institution, well positioned to meet the challenges of the future. In addition to developing and delivering an ambitious strategy, they will provide inclusive leadership and continue to deliver an organisational culture in which all colleagues and students feel engaged. They will ensure that the University continues to excel in research, teaching, enterprise and sport, and will champion the student experience in the post-Covid era. Ultimately, the new Vice-Chancellor will strengthen further the University’s position as a leading UK institution whilst developing its international reputation and profile to position Loughborough more firmly on the global stage.
Whether currently based in the UK or overseas, the successful candidate will combine strategic leadership and management experience in a complex setting with an inspirational approach that enthuses young people. They will bring a demonstrable commitment to progress on equality, diversity and inclusion, and widening participation agendas, coupled with the personal presence to represent Loughborough regionally, nationally, and internationally. A values-driven individual, they will be credible in providing academic leadership in a research-intensive context, and have proven capability in influencing external stakeholders in government, industry and/or the third sector. Financial acumen alongside a good understanding of the issues facing higher education at present are highly desirable attributes.
