Centre for Research in Social Policy, Department of Social Sciences, Loughborough University.
The Centre is seeking a researcher to join its influential Minimum Income Standard (MIS) team, whose work is used to set the UK Living Wage and inform public policy debate and charitable practice. The post holder will take part in a range of mainly qualitative research projects. This will include carrying out in-depth interviews exploring the experiences of people on low incomes, and helping to run focus groups in which members of the public identify what is required for a minimum acceptable standard of living. The Centre has a steady flow of new projects commissioned by a variety of funders, and the team must always adapt to new challenges as they arise. We are looking for someone who can not only carry out fieldwork, but also play a part in analysing and writing up results and relating them to public policy. This will require the ability to undertake numerical analysis of findings related to income, and therefore someone who is comfortable with numbers and spreadsheets. The role requires experience of qualitative research, and could suit either an established or an early-career researcher with a strong analytical mind, a genuine interest in social policy and above all the adaptability and imagination required to take up new challenges and work as part of a team.
Informal enquiries should be made to Professor Donald Hirsch, Director, Centre for Research in Social Policy, by email at: d.b.hirsch@lboro.ac.uk
