Loughborough University London
Loughborough University London is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer to join its Institute for Diplomacy and International Governance.
Loughborough London is a thriving and friendly postgraduate School situated on London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, and we want to appoint a senior colleague to work collaboratively within the Institute and across the whole School.
The Institute for Diplomacy and International Governance has been under the direction of Professor Helen Drake since October 2017, and has embarked on a process of strategic development. We currently offer three taught Masters programmes (specialising in Diplomacy with Business and Trade; with Statecraft and Foreign Policy; and with Security and Peace-building), and we wish to expand the content of these degrees with immediate effect. For the medium and long term, we are exploring additional programmes for delivery in traditional, and potentially other formats (such as short-course education). In response to the withdrawal of the UK from the EU, we wish to enhance our research expertise as well as our capacity for stakeholder engagement relating to the broadly-defined themes of 'Brexit' diplomacy, 'Brexit' governance, and the UK's global role.
The successful applicant will demonstrate a substantial track record and forward trajectory of research activity as measured by high-quality publications, competitive funding applications and public engagement, broadly-defined. They will have appropriate and relevant experience with regards to the supervision of others and demonstrate evidence of academic entrepreneurship and thought leadership. They will demonstrate experience of teaching and/or training students across a variety of academic and professional environments.
The successful applicant will be required to contribute to existing teaching across the Institute, to propose new curriculum content, and to engage with School-wide initiatives for providing a high-quality experience to a diverse and internationalised student body. They will be expected to develop their research activities in line with University strategy and School policy, and to draw on the opportunities of the London campus to expand the Institute's enterprise and public engagement activities. They should expect to take a key role in the development of the Institute's PhD provision, and should also be willing to take on administrative tasks in support of the Institute director, and to offer leadership and support to colleagues at an earlier stage of their career.
Overall, we want to hear from entrepreneurial, versatile and collegial-minded candidates who are well-networked in and outside academia and who are seeking a London-based opportunity to take their career to a new stage.
The closing date for applications is Friday 2 February 2018 and interviews will be held in late February/early March 2018. We expect the successful candidate to take up post in the course of the current 2017-18 academic year.
