Department of Chemical Engineering
The Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking to appoint a Professor of Industrial Biotechnology. The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of research, teaching and enterprise strategy to maintain vitality in the activities of the School generally and in the area of Industrial Biotechnology or Bioprocess Engineering.
Loughborough is a top 20 UK University and the Chemical Engineering Department has a reputation within industry and academia for research excellence and producing highly trained, well-educated and professional chemical engineers. Staff and students also benefit from world class laboratory and pilot scale facilities and close industrial relationships with leading companies in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, petrochemical, food, brewing and bioscience sectors.
The Department has a dedicated Class 2 Biolab where staff already work in the Bioprocessing, Biorefinery and Bioenergy sectors. The successful candidate would be expected to complement and develop these activities, thereby extending the School's activities in Process and Biological Engineering, specifically in areas related to Industrial Biotechnology.
We are interested in candidates who can pursue an 'internationally competitive' personal research programme. Particularly, they need to lead and strengthen our research capability within the School's Process and Biological Engineering Research Themes and more generally within the Enabling Technologies and Health and Wellbeing Challenge Themes across the University.
The successful candidate should be able to show a track record of significant achievement in research and project team leadership, including industrial collaborations and securing funding. A background in an appropriate Science/Engineering discipline with specific and current expertise relevant to Industrial Biotechnology and/or Bioprocess Engineering is essential.
