Loughborough University is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and experienced senior technician in the Physics Department of the multi-disciplinary School of Science.
The post holder will support the installation and commissioning of a multi-user thin film, lithography and scanning probe microscopy system (nanofabrication system). In addition the role will include providing technical support to staff and students in the department's research laboratories.
Duties will include: management of the nanofabrication system including training and technical support for research staff and student users; implementation of laboratory Health and Safety procedures; development of standard operating protocols; implementation of initial test devices to demonstrate the capabilities of the nanofabrication system; and assisting with organisation and delivery of postgraduate training workshops. This role would suit someone with experience in thin film and lithography techniques and competence in the use and maintenance of UHV systems. A good working knowledge of relevant Health and Safety regulations and practices is also desirable.
The successful candidate should be a highly motivated individual with good communication skills. In depth experimental knowledge of one or more of the areas of lithography, RF and DC sputtering, e-beam evaporation and scanning probe microscopy techniques would also be advantageous.
