Department of Chemical Engineering
The Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking to appoint a Professor of Biological Engineering / Regenerative Medicine. The successful candidate will provide academic leadership for the activities of the School specifically in the area of Healthcare, Biological Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, as well as more generally across the School and the University.
Loughborough is a top 20 UK University and the Chemical Engineering Department has a reputation within industry and academia for research excellence and producing highly trained, well-educated and professional chemical engineers. Staff and students also benefit from world class laboratory and pilot scale facilities and close industrial relationships with leading companies in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, petrochemical, food, brewing and bioscience sectors.
The Department plays a major role in the fully integrated 'innovation-to-product' Centre for Biological Engineering (CBE), which brings together world-class researchers in the fields of healthcare engineering and cell technologies, all working in the translational space between scientific discovery and products, processes, techniques and therapies. The CBE also leads the GBP 10.5m EPSRC/MRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Regenerative Medicine, training >100 PhD students over 11 years in conjunction with Keele and Nottingham Universities. The successful candidate would be expected to play a significant role in the activities of the CBE and CDT.
We are interested in candidates who can pursue an 'internationally competitive' personal research programme and lead and strengthen our research capability consistent with the research priorities of the School's Healthcare Research Theme and more generally within the Health and Wellbeing Challenge Theme across the University.
The successful candidate should be able to show a track record of significant achievement in research and project team leadership, including industrial collaborations and securing funding. A background in an appropriate Science / Engineering discipline with specific and current expertise in Biological Engineering and/or Regenerative Medicine is essential.
