Art and Design at Loughborough is currently ranked 36th in the QS World Rankings (2017) and 2nd in the UK (The Times Good University Guide 2016, The Complete University Guide 2017).
This excellent international and national reputation in Graphic Communication and Illustration is the result of the sustained high-quality research and teaching of its well-established and dedicated team. The GC&I programme has developed many professional and academic associations with the Creative Industries via external projects, industry links, staff research, exhibitions and work placements.
The Programme is committed to understanding and progressing professional practice through research-led teaching that combine traditional and new technologies and collaborative interdisciplinary and industry-supported projects, and delivers outstanding graduate prospects.
Situated within the School of the Arts, English and Drama, the expertise of the Graphic Communication and Illustration team includes: the international Drawing Research Group and the associated Tracey journal; the Animation Research Group and its Animation Practice, Process & Production journal; and, The Poster - the journal of visual rhetoric in the public sphere. We cover the cultural and social applications of graphic and communication design, illustration, visualization, drawing, design methods and research.
Our shared focus emerges from a shared investigation into the applications of design methods to produce effective communications. This includes design pedagogy, industrial engagement, social activism and social enterprise, and the application of design methods and practices to address the specific visual culture of diverse user groups.
