Voluntary Subwarden - Rutherford Hall
A vacancy has arisen for a Subwarden at Rutherford Hall of Residence. Applications are invited from post graduate research students of the University. The Post will start at the beginning of January 2018 in time for the start of spring term.
Accommodation and Catering Arrangements
Free accommodation is available during term-time. The accommodation available is only suitable for a single person. Breakfast, lunch and evening meals are provided Monday to Friday during term-time.
Duties
Subwardens assist the Warden in the day today running of the hall. This may involve pastoral, disciplinary and administrative duties as well as being involved in social aspects of hall life.The successful applicant will be part of a team which provides out-of-hours emergency cover in a hall of 300 students and which helps to ensure the smooth running of the hall. Subwardens assist the Warden in the day to day running of the hall.
Personal Attributes
Candidates must display a high level of personal organisational ability, good administrative ability, leadership qualities and be a good team player. Subwardens are expected to demonstrate a commitment to the community spirit of the Hall and a willingness to engage with students and hall life.
It is very important to find out what you are committing yourself to and to understand what is involved. All applicants are required to find out more about the hall community as it forms an integral part of the selection process. The successful applicant must be available to attend Sub Warden training sessions in September and undertake first aid training.

It is highly recommended that prospective candidates make contact with the Warden and the current Sub-wardens to find out about Hall life and the likely duties, during the application process. Interested applicants will be invited to look round the hall, and attend a meeting to discuss the post prior to close of applications.

Applicants should not submit a standard University application form. Please submit The Office of Voluntary Sub-wardenship application form (attached) together with an accompanying letter outlining suitability for the post. These are then to be sent directly to the Warden with an accompanying letter and two written references (PhD Supervisors, Director of Studies / Line Manager, Head of Section).
Completed application forms are to be submitted to the Warden by email by Friday 21 November 2017, with a view to holding interviews shortly thereafter.Successful candidates should be ready to take their place in hall from early January 2018.
