Voluntary Subwarden – William Morris Hall
A vacancy has arisen for a Subwarden at William Morris Hall of Residence. Applications are invited from post graduate research students of the University.
Accommodation and Catering Arrangements
Free accommodation is available during term time. The accommodation available is only suitable for a single person. William Morris Hall is self-catered accommodation. Sub-wardens in self-catered halls are entitled to one courtesy meal per day for each week that the students in their hall are in residence.
Duties
Subwardens assist the Warden in the day to day running of the hall. This may involve pastoral, disciplinary and administrative duties as well as being involved in social aspects of hall life. The successful applicant will be part of a team which provides out-of-hours emergency cover in a hall of 467 students and which helps to ensure the smooth running of the hall. Applicants on a Tier 4 visa will be subject to the working restrictions indicated on their visa.
The successful applicant must make every effort to make themselves available to attend Sub warden training sessions (e.g. in the second half of September 2022) and should be available to take their place in hall ideally in November 2021.

Personal Attributes
Candidates must display excellent interpersonal communication skills, a high level of personal organisational ability, good administrative ability, leadership qualities and be a good team player. Sub-wardens are also expected to demonstrate a commitment to the community spirit of the hall.
It is very important to find out what you are committing yourself to and to understand what is involved. All applicants are required to find out more about the hall community as it forms an integral part of the selection process.

Applicants should not submit a standard University application form. Please submit The Office of Voluntary Subwardenship application form (attached) together with an accompanying letter outlining suitability for the post. These are then to be sent directly to the Warden with an accompanying letter and two written references (PhD Supervisors, Director of Studies / Line Manager, Head of Section). References may be supplied directly from the referee to the Warden by email but must arrive promptly.
Completed application forms are to be submitted to the Warden by email by Thursday 4th November 2021. Interviews will likely be held the week commencing 8th November. Successful candidates should be ready to take their place in hall ideally during November 2021 if possible.
