Enterprise Office
Fixed Term until March 2021
Loughborough University, as a partner in the Midlands Innovation Universities MICRA project, is looking to recruit a motivated and entrepreneurial professional with the drive and creativity to develop and implement entrepreneurial training programmes for academics, researchers and TTO staff.
The MICRA project is creating a connected system of technology transfer offices that will drive jobs and economic growth across the Midlands region, following a GBP 5 million award from Research England. Led by the University of Birmingham, the award will establish MICRA as a single gateway to the collective intellectual property (IP) resources from the eight Midlands Innovation universities.
The Training Delivery Manager will be located in Loughborough but, will also be a part of the wider MICRA team. It is a challenging role but there is the potential to be highly creative, influence at high levels and develop the next generation of entrepreneurially minded researchers. The core of the role is to develop, drive and implement a coherent entrepreneurial training offer for academic staff across the Midlands Innovation Universities. This will build upon the offers already available within the Universities and ensure that collectively we provide experience-based training that meets academic needs across their research commercialisation journey. The role-holder will also be expected to coordinate collaborations and skills development activities within the cohort of Technology Transfer Officers of the consortium.
We are looking for professionals with active experience in mentoring, supporting and/or 'training' in the entrepreneurship and commercialisation space. If you have experience in taking or supporting early stage ideas to a commercial end-goal and can also identify training needs, implement experience based training programmes and mentor colleagues then we would like to talk to you.
You should have an entrepreneurial and creative mindset, a market (rather than technology) led perspective and the ability to influence at a senior level to make things happen and to mentor others on their journey. An understanding of the Higher Education environment and the drivers and barriers for commercialisation of research is also key. The role is full time and fixed term in the first instance but, for the right candidate, we may consider part-time working.
If you would like to discuss the opportunity to join our team, you are encouraged to contact Mark Bennett, Head of IP Exploitation on 01509 223858 or 07925 035032 for an informal discussion.
