Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Organic Chemistry (depending on experience)
School/Department summary:
The Department of Chemistry is part of the School of Science and is located on Loughborough University’s main East Midlands campus. Chemistry moved to new facilities in 2018 on “West Park” as part of a £59M investment in experimental STEM provision that also included creation of an award-winning teaching facility (StemLab) and the Science and Enterprise Park (LUSEP). The majority of experimental STEM provision is co-located on West Park which facilitates cross-disciplinary collaboration across all of Science and Engineering.
We are looking to recruit a high-calibre individual with Organic Chemistry expertise to strengthen our well-established research themes. Applicants whose research complements and strengthens our existing activities below are encouraged to apply.
The three Department of Chemistry Research Themes are:
Energy and Sustainability (including areas such as energy-generation, demand reduction and storage, catalysis, chemical recycling), benefitting from aligned EPSRC CDT’s (EnerHy, Off-shore Wind Energy, Waterwiser).
Chemistry for Health (including areas such as synthesis, therapeutics, sensing and imaging) has been bolstered by recent appointments in the biological space, the award of the UK Centre for Neuromorphic Computing, and complementary investments in two other Schools, reflecting our campus-wide ethos of working collaboratively to change the world.
Research intensity in Digital Chemistry (including areas such as molecular and materials modelling,, chemical and bioreactor design, VR and AI in chemistry, and drug detection) benefits from recent major government funding and the campus-wide University DigiLabs initiative.
All themes benefit from the two Chemistry led University Research Centres, one in Analytical Science and the other in device fabrication (Lab2Fab). Both these centres capitalise on the growth of enabling technologies and their applications, as exemplified in recent spin-out growth (Figura, R3V Tech).
For more information on the role please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification.
We welcome informal enquiries, especially from people belonging to groups currently underrepresented in Chemistry as an academic discipline; please feel encouraged to contact the Head of Department, Professor Sandie Dann (s.e.dann@lboro.ac.uk) or the Chemistry Research Coordinator Professor Stephen Butler (s.j.butler@lboro.ac.uk).
