Loughborough University is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and experienced senior technician/technical tutor in the Chemistry Department of the multi-disciplinary School of Science.
The post holder will bring substantial experimental subject expertise to provide technical support to staff and students in the department's research and teaching laboratories. When required the role will also include supporting the learning and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate classes in the Chemistry Laboratories.
Duties will include: ensuring chemistry research equipment and specialist facilities are maintained and technical support is provided to research staff and student users, implementation of laboratory Health and Safety procedures, providing supervision and instruction to students in laboratories, testing and constructing/preparing new experiments and specialist research equipment and providing line management to other technical team members. This role would suit someone with experience in supporting chemistry synthesis laboratories and the ability to deliver practical laboratory sessions individually or as part of a team. A good working knowledge of relevant Health and Safety regulations and practices is also required.
The successful candidate should be a highly motivated individual with good communication skills. In depth experimental knowledge of organic or inorganic chemistry techniques is essential and experience of X-ray diffraction as an advanced user would be advantageous.
