Wolfson School of Mechanical Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering
Full Time, Fixed term for 12 months
An ambitious postdoctoral Research Associate is being sought to join a pioneering IP and Commercialisation Accelerator project. This interdisciplinary initiative, spanning Manufacturing Engineering, Design, and Materials Engineering, aims to develop cutting-edge, machine-readable marking systems for reusable plastic packaging within a circular economy framework.
The role focuses on practical development and industrial demonstration of a novel, contaminant-free identification method to support reusable packaging asset tracking.
The Research Associate will work within a multi-disciplinary team and be expected to undertake experimental activities and travel to potential partners to leverage industrial and commercialization support under NDAs. The researcher will also be required to engage in IP protection of the novel technology.
Educated to PhD level (or equivalent experience) with experience in optical processing, machine vision or polymer science is essential as are excellent communication skills and an ability to author technical reports. Applicants should have practical experience of experimental design and in working within or alongside industry. Knowledge of the current packaging industry would also be advantageous.
